just in case you folks don’t quite understand the implications of “employment discrimination” and “housing discrimination” i will break it down for you:
it means you can be FIRED from your job, no matter HOW long you’ve been working there or how great an employee you are, for NO other reason, and it means you can be KICKED OUT OF YOUR HOUSE AND/OR EVICTED for NO OTHER REASON. it means you can be DENIED a job SOLELY because you are trans* and it means you can be denied a home SOLELY because you are trans*. and it is COMPLETELY LEGAL.
mass only recently ended this with the trans* rights bill we passed just a few months ago.
i hope you understand that the legal sanctioning of stripping BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS from trans* people is DIRECTLY CORRELATED with the outrageously high homelessness and SUICIDE rates of trans* people. THIS is part of why over 50% of trans* people UNDER 20 have attempted suicide, many successfully. 50 FUCKING PERCENT.
this is not just discrimination. this is STRIPPING people of their HUMANITY and ENDORSING their deaths. this is borderline LEGAL GENOCIDE.

When we talk about androgynous fashion, we usually mean female-presenting people in outfits that incorporate or echo menswear. One seldom sees male-presenting people doing the same with womenswear, at least in the mainstream.
I think some of that must be a side effect of the privileging of traits, roles, and characteristics associated with masculinity over those associated with femininity—a woman in masculine-associated roles or clothing is moving in the direction of higher status and increased social privilege, at least implicitly; a man in feminine-associated roles or clothing, lower. We associate women in menswear with freedom and assertion; men in womenswear with deviation, grotesquerie, and parody.
How fucked up is that?

jesus this is fucking scary- a night before this a friend and i were out on 17th and some dude started fallowing us and screaming at us cuz he read us as a lez couple then relized i was a trans woman and started threatening rape and that he was going to kill me and just a day before a friend of my barely escaped getting beaten or worse by a group of dudes only cuz they were able to convince them that they were a cis woman and not a trans woman/faggot. It could have been any of us- were all just a moment away from encountering the wrong man/men on the wrong street. Fuck this world, kill men, die cis scum.
A close friend of mine was told “stay the fuck away, I don’t like faggots like you around me” despite keeping 5 feet of distance on the Amtrak platform. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the Bay Area is still part of a larger social fabric — a tainted and moldy social fabric that often responds to queerness with threats and violence :/
